Sexual Abuse... What Teens Should Know

  • My body is my own and no one has a right to touch me in private areas. No one has the right to force me to touch them in their private areas.

  • Say “No” to alcohol. You can be taken advantage of much more easily if you are intoxicated.

  • Never leave your drink unattended at a party. Someone could put a date rape drug in it.

  • Don’t leave a party with people you don’t know, or with people, you know asking you to do things you’re uncomfortable with.

  • Tell your parents where you are going and call them if you get into an uncomfortable situation.

  • Don’t lie about your age when dating. Someone older may try to take advantage of you.

  • Privacy settings on social media – teens who use Snapchat can use ghost mode for privacy. Avoid giving out personal information. www.netsmartz.org/internetsafety

  • Never send pictures of yourself without your clothes on to anyone. People who date you may use that against you in a breakup.

  • Never send any pictures you receive on your phone or electronic device to anyone showing nudity. Notify school officials or a Police Officer.

  • Never agree to meet anyone in person that you don't know. Many people on social media will lie about who they are. They may be adults, pretending to be a teenager. They may post fake pictures & may try to harm you.
